About the choir
Directed by Daniel Blaze, Lady Clare’s Consort consists of eight regular singers, and a multitude of other musicians for specific concerts and recordings.
Lady Clare’s Consort, founded in 2023, is a vocal consort specialising in renaissance choral music. Over the past two years, the group have performed in many of the prestigious college chapels of Cambridge, such as Trinity, Clare, and Sidney Sussex, as well as churches outside of Cambridge, such as Bolton Abbey Priory, St George’s Cullercoats, St Dominic’s Priory, and Sherborne Abbey. Based in Cambridge, the group consists of and calls upon many of the top choral scholars and lay-clerks from around the university. Programmatic highlights have included performances of settings of the Lamentations of Jeremiah by William Byrd, Thomas Tallis, Alonso Lobo, and Robert White; Byrd’s Five-part mass and his Advent motets; Musicke Divine – a programme of English music based on the art of music; and new compositions commissioned for the group from Greg May, Mark Zang, and Victoria Longstaff.
