About us

Directed by Daniel Blaze, Lady Clare’s Consort consists of eight regular singers, and a multitude of other musicians for specific concerts and recordings.

Lady Clare’s Consort is a vocal consort specialising in renaissance choral music. Since their founding in 2023, the group have given 32 concerts around the United Kingdom, performing in many of the prestigious college chapels of Cambridge, such as Trinity, Clare, and Sidney Sussex, as well as churches outside of Cambridge, such as Bolton Abbey Priory, St George’s Cullercoats, St Dominic’s Priory, and Sherborne Abbey.

The past year began with a concert dedicated to the feast of Candlemas, including settings of the responsory “Videte Miraculum”, by Thomas Tallis and William Mundy, followed by a Lenten concert featuring settings of “The Lamentations of Jeremiah”, by William Byrd and Thomas Tallis.

In the Summer of 2025, the group performed as part of the Brecon Choir Festival, presenting a concert celebrating 500 years since the birth of Palestrina. They then continued on a tour to Bridgnorth, Bolton Abbey, and Burton Leonard, performing their programme “The Art of Imitation”, a concert centered around the parody mass genre. Next, the group was joined by instrumentalists from the University of Cambridge to give the premier performance of Jeremy Thurlow’s “Earthquake in the Soul”, a work exploring three of Hildegard’s spiritual visions, based on the ‘Earthquake’ mass attributed to Brumel.

The group’s final concert of the year was a Christmas concert in St Botolph’s Church, Cambridge, featuring the responsaries of John Sheppard, Thomas Tallis, and William Byrd, alongside Christmas works by Joanna Marsh, Kenneth Leighton, Herbert Howells, and Hieronymus Praetorius’s extra festive setting of the Magnificat.
